Regrouting near Molesey

About our regrouting in Molesey

Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. If you have crumbling grout between the tiles and splashback grout that has darkened, we can put it right.

Around Molesey, you will mostly find houses and bungalows, from older cottages to newer builds. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do in a big town.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Parking around Molesey is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it and renew the silicone at the edges.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Molesey

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Molesey. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you look after a building such as The Orchard Infant School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Rented homes near Hampton Court station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

How we quote for regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How much there is to do

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before we start.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the property is
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that’s easy.

Molesey: your questions answered

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Molesey?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Do you cover smaller places like Molesey?

Yes. Molesey is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

What does regrouting cost?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Generally, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

How long should I wait before showering?

Before we leave, we’ll tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.

DIY versus a professional finish

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We also work for property managers and facilities teams in Molesey and across Surrey. We can quote a run of properties together.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can go on one quote.

Leave it or put it right?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Around Molesey, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window so the grout dries between uses.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
