About our regrouting in Methven
A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. If you’re dealing with corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, we can help.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Quotes for regrouting in Methven
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- The number and length of the joints
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before work begins.
What we need to know

- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Common questions in Methven
Do you cover smaller places like Methven?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do regrouting in Methven?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Methven is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.
Is resealing included with regrouting?
Generally, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.
Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
What sealant do you use?
It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, it will not last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
What information do you need?
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will ask anything else we need to know.
Regrouting around Methven
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
In and around Methven, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you live in an older home near Methven Parish Church and churchyard, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.
Can I do it myself?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Why deal with it now?
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What sealant work cannot fix
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

How the visit works
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a place like Methven, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Preparing for the visit
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
