Hurlet Regrouting
Regrouting for Hurlet, by sealant specialists with 20+ years’ experience. Rated 4.9 on Google from 180+ five-star reviews.
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
What sealant work cannot fix
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Regrouting in Hurlet
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Typical jobs include stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor, across bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and bathroom floors.
Scotland’s cities have a lot of flats, from sandstone or granite tenements to modern blocks, as well as houses in the suburbs. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam and poor ventilation still let mould into the sealant and grout.
Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Should I try it myself first?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Looking after it afterwards
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
What happens on the day
Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Many homes in Scotland’s cities are tenement flats, reached through a shared close and up a common stair. In Hurlet, it helps to know the floor, the door entry arrangements and the nearest parking.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
- Mention any parking rules near the property

Hurlet questions
Can a failed shower seal in a tenement flat in Hurlet leak into the flat below?
Yes, and the first sign is often a mark on the ceiling below. Cutting out the old sealant and laying a fresh bead puts a stop to it.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Nitshill station?
Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.
When can I use the shower again?
You’ll get a clear time from us before we go. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.
Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.
Do you guarantee regrouting?
Our 12-month guarantee covers every job, including regrouting.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
What sealant do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.
Do you need regrouting in Hurlet?
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
Look out for these signs:
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
Rented homes near Nitshill station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Why act early in Hurlet
It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often do not match and the old grout carries on failing. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. Private landlords in Hurlet must meet the Repairing Standard, and damp or leaks can fall short of it, so it’s worth fixing failed sealant before a tenant reports it.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What else we do in Hurlet
What the job involves on each surface
Wet rooms
New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It cannot fix waterproofing below the tiles.
Bathroom floors
Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.
Hurlet homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Schools such as St Andrew's Academy are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
