  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

Regrouting in Forest Side

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Forest Side

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water can get in behind the tiles. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. If you are dealing with gaps where the shower grout has gone and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can help, whatever the surface.

Around Forest Side, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

Regrouting around Forest Side

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. Forest Side has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

If you live in an older home near St. Mary's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Your questions about regrouting in Forest Side

Will you come out to Forest Side?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you do regrouting in Forest Side?

Yes, Forest Side is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We’re a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Is it worth trying it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, it will not last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls

DIY versus a professional finish

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Common problems we fix in Forest Side

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks because those joints flex. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines

If you look after a building such as Carisbrooke College, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What happens if the job turns out different

Our hiring checklist

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

What we do, step by step

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Forest Side needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

How to prepare

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
