Dinnet Regrouting

Tiled areas in Dinnet need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window so the grout dries between uses.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

How we handle regrouting in Dinnet

Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We work on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls, and people most often call us about floor grout that has worn and darkened and splashback grout that has darkened.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Quotes for regrouting in Dinnet

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Any working-time requirements on site

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

What we cannot put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

What we’re called out for in Dinnet

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift

Around Dinnet, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

10 questions to ask before you book

Regrouting in Dinnet: local notes

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Homes close to Dinnet Parish Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Common questions in Dinnet

Do you cover smaller places like Dinnet?

Yes. Dinnet is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is regrouting in Dinnet guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected.

How long does regrouting take?

That depends on the amount of work, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

Where are you based?

We work from Crawley. We cover Dinnet and the rest of Aberdeenshire.

How much does regrouting cost in Dinnet?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.

How it works

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so they get silicone, not grout.

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
