Regrouting near Cote

Regrouting in Cote, done properly

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. We’re often asked to deal with grout that makes sound tiles look old and gaps where the shower grout has gone, on shower walls, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms.

Around Cote, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Cote as everywhere else we work.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Wet rooms

New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It doesn’t repair failed tanking underneath.

How we quote for regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • The product the joint needs
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The amount of work

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that is easy

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Signs you need regrouting in Cote

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before any work starts.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

In the older streets around St Symphorian's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What the cure time is
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

Choosing a sealant specialist

What we do, step by step

Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere as small as Cote, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Cote questions

Do you cover smaller places like Cote?

Yes. Cote is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Durrington-On-Sea station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our one-year guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.

What do you put in the joint?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes, we often do. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Regrouting around Cote

Cote is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Durrington Junior School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Durrington-On-Sea station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Cote is about 2 miles north-west of Worthing, in West Sussex. Across the BN13 area, our applicators can take on regrouting. Cote is one of 371 places in West Sussex where we work for regrouting. There’s also a page for Brighton, roughly 13 miles from Cote.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Rinse the tiles after showering

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers because they wear grout away.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer.
