Wet rooms
Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We renew both.
Bathroom wall tiles
Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on size. You can change the colour at the same time.
Regrouting in Carnbo
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. We work on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and tiled floors, and common reasons people get in touch are floor grout that has worn and darkened and crumbling grout between the tiles.
In and around a place like Carnbo, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Carnbo questions
Is regrouting in Carnbo guaranteed?
All our work, in Carnbo and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Is Carnbo in your area for regrouting?
Yes, Carnbo is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
We normally do. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.
How long will you be here?
That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we are fully insured too.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Carnbo
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll quote.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
How to look after the new joints
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.
Why act early in Carnbo
Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out and stains often come back through. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Regrouting in Carnbo: local notes
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Whether the job is in Carnbo itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. Around Carnbo, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How we quote for regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- The size of the job
- How many areas need sealing
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether the work is at height
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
What we need to know
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- The address or postcode of the job
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What we do, step by step
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Carnbo depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Before we arrive
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
