Need regrouting in Camb?

Common problems we fix in Camb

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

People usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened

Schools such as Mid Yell Junior High School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Our hiring checklist

Regrouting in Camb, done properly

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the discolouration has usually soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. We work on shower walls, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are grout washed out of a shower and good tiles let down by tired grout.

For a place like Camb, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Landlord and commercial work in Camb

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room in most cases. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Advice

Questions from Camb

Will you come out to Camb?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Camb?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is it worth trying it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

We can. We will check the other tiled areas as well and tell you if anything else needs attention.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator, and we’re fully insured.

What the job involves on each surface

Wet rooms

New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It gets worn and dirty.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Camb

Camb is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

In the older streets around Reafirth Chapel, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Why it’s worth doing now in Camb

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

Why us?

  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
  • Neat joints and a tidy finish
  • Every job guaranteed for a year

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
