Regrouting near Arreton

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Arreton

Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We work on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about greasy, stained grout behind the hob and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned.

Homes around Arreton are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Arreton as everywhere else we work.

Common problems we fix in Arreton

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before any work starts.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines

Choosing a sealant specialist

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Arreton: your questions answered

I let a flat near Sandown station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is Arreton within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.

Can I do it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

How long does regrouting take?

It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. We’ll tell you when we quote.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Arreton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Advice

Regrouting in Arreton: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around St. George's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Arreton is about 3 miles south-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Wherever you are in the PO30 postcode area, we can carry out regrouting at your property. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover 125 places, Arreton among them. You can also see our page for Portsmouth, about 12 miles away.

Every address in PO30 is covered for regrouting. Whether your property is on Cherrywood View, Hopkins Walk and Hazely Combe or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover the places around Arreton: Merstone (1 mile south-west), Downend (1 mile north), Hale Common (1 mile south), Newchurch (1 mile south-east) and Branstone (2 miles south-east). When it is not the sealant

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Why deal with it now?

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Arreton, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
