About regrouting in East Dunbartonshire

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. Typical jobs include corners filled with grout instead of silicone and good tiles let down by tired grout, on bathroom floors, tiled floors and shower walls.

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

What you’ll pay

Bathrooms and kitchens across East Dunbartonshire

From Kirkintilloch, Bearsden and Bishopbriggs to its smaller places, homes across East Dunbartonshire have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.

Homes in Scotland come with their own details: sash and case windows, harled walls and, in the towns and cities, tenement flats. We work across Scotland, including East Dunbartonshire.

Kirkintilloch: Managing a site like Kirkintilloch High School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Lenzie station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Honest limits

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • A leaking wet room membrane

What affects the quote in East Dunbartonshire

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The number and length of the joints

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Need a quote? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We’ll explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before work begins.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Common problems we fix in East Dunbartonshire

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, until the joints are rough and low.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines

Why act early?

Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • What insurance they hold
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What guarantee comes with the work

East Dunbartonshire: your questions answered

How long does the job take?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We will tell you when we quote.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

In most cases, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.
