What sealant work can’t fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom floors

Regrouting in Aberlour, done properly

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and bathroom floors, and the jobs we see most are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout washed out of a shower.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Aberlour work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee.

How it works

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The visit itself normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Your questions about regrouting in Aberlour

Is regrouting in Aberlour guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you cover smaller places like Aberlour?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. Darker grout can hide marks and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for every job we do.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Aberlour and the rest of Moray.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before resealing.

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose

We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Why act early in Aberlour

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Regrouting in Aberlour: local notes

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Around Aberlour, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. If you live in an older home near St Margaret's Episcopal Church and Burial Ground, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How we quote for regrouting

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Access and height
  • The product the joint needs

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What we need to know

When you contact us, these details help:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Where the property is
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will give you a clear quote before any work starts.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so they get silicone, not grout.

Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We check the tiles before regrouting.
