How we handle regrouting in Dufftown

Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We work on shower walls, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are good tiles let down by tired grout and grout in a colour the owner wants to change.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Dufftown work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Do you need regrouting in Dufftown?

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned

In the older streets around St Mary of The Assumption, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • The product the joint needs
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The number of rooms or windows

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • The rough size of the job
  • The type of property
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Where the property is

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help us understand the job.

What happens on the day

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a place like Dufftown, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Getting a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Advice

Dufftown homes and their sealant

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but grout there still discolours. Regrouting brings them back in line.

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Dufftown

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
