Trusted new build mastic in Tongland

Do you need new build mastic in Tongland?

Not every new-build joint gets the right sealant: caulk where water collects, or a rigid product on a moving joint. Neither lasts long.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Cracked caulk along new skirting
  • Sealant that never bonded to the surface
  • Worktop and upstand sealant coming away
  • Untidy sealant flagged on a snagging list

Whether the job is in Tongland itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Our hiring checklist

How we handle new build mastic in Tongland

A new house keeps drying out and settling for its first couple of years. Timber dries and shrinks, and baths and trays settle, and sealant applied in a hurry at handover can split. Typical jobs include cracks appearing as a new home settles and skirting joints opening in the first winter, on bathrooms & en suites, kitchens and skirting & floors.

New homes in smaller Scottish places are often single plots, self-builds or small developments. Each needs its sealant and floor joints finished as carefully as on a big site.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How it works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes a few hours in a single home, depending on how much there is to do. For a place like Tongland, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We go through the snagging list or plot schedule and agree the joints to do.
  2. Failed or untidy sealant is cut out completely.
  3. We clean off dust from the build and prime the surfaces where the product needs it.
  4. New sealant suited to each joint is applied and tooled neatly.
  5. We check every joint and tell you how long each needs to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchens

Sink joints are wet all the time. A kitchen sealant goes in there suited to the job.

Windows and doors

The gap between a new frame and its plaster reveal often opens up. We remove cracked sealant and apply a flexible one.

When something else is needed

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Deciding who is responsible under a builder’s warranty
  • Cracking that points to a structural problem
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes, which need a plumber

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

How we quote for new build mastic

There’s no set price list. What we look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The number and length of the joints

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

To get a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will send you a clear quote before any work starts.

What happens if it’s left?

Small cosmetic gaps can wait for the house to settle, but water getting through cannot. Not sure whether yours can wait? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few photos and we will tell you. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
