Gutter sealing in Rottingdean

About our gutter sealing in Rottingdean

Gutter and fascia replacement is not our trade, and nor is roofing. Sealant fixes joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. We work on soffit joints, garage door frames and gutter end caps, and common reasons people get in touch are leaking gutter joints and stop ends and dripping gutter ends.

Somewhere as small as Rottingdean, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, where walls and rooflines take the weather head on. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What we are called out for in Rottingdean

Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go, which is why we look before we seal.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter
  • Cracked sealant along roofline trims
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Old gutter sealant that has let go

If you let a flat or house near Moulsecoomb station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether VAT is included

Outside joints around Rottingdean

Rottingdean is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. With historic houses such as Royal Pavilion (about 3.2 miles west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Rottingdean as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Wulfran's Church, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Longhill High School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Quotes for gutter sealing in Rottingdean

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The number of rooms or windows

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

We don’t publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, we send you a clear quote for your job. To arrange one, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

What happens if it’s left?

Sealing over a dirty, wet joint is a quick fix that rarely lasts but it tends to peel off. Cleaning out and drying the joint first is what makes it last. Older cottages and farmhouses around Rottingdean can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can be quoted together.

How the job changes by surface

Soffit joints

Gaps at soffit joints can let in draughts and insects. We close them with a suitable sealant.

uPVC fascias

Joints between fascia boards can open over time. We seal them neatly with a matching sealant where possible.

How it works

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. For a village or hamlet like Rottingdean, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter isn’t broken or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Questions from Rottingdean

I let a flat near Moulsecoomb station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Rottingdean?

Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Not for long. The joint will pull apart so the gutter has to be refixed first.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Rottingdean.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Will you clear out my gutters?

We clear debris around the joints we’re sealing. A full clean of the gutters isn’t part of it.

How do I get a quote for gutter sealing in Rottingdean?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

We help you choose a colour that suits. The choice depends on the product the joint needs.
