Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Rathven
We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints rather than new guttering. If you’re dealing with damp patches inside below a leaking gutter and drips from gutter joints and end caps, we can help.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Rathven depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.

What we do, step by step
Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, and the area is left clean. Outdoor work around Rathven depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First we agree which joints need sealing.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice
Rathven buildings and the weather
Rathven is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.
Schools such as Buckie High School are buildings too, and movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Rathven
Does the coastal weather in Rathven affect outside sealant?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.
Will you come out to Rathven?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
In most cases you can choose. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.
Which products do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before resealing.
Is sealing fascia joints something you do?
Yes. Our work is the joints, and if a board is damaged, we will tell you.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Just list everything you need.
Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Look at the gutters while it’s raining
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Glance at the soffit joints now and then
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. If it drops, the joints will open.
If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp.
When something else is needed
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Downpipes that are blocked or broken
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

How the job changes by surface
Gutter end caps
We seal end caps from the inside where we can reach once clean and dry.
Gutter joints
A dripping joint doesn’t always mean a failed gutter. Sealing the joint often stops it.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can be quoted together.
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
When to call us in Rathven
Stop ends take pressure from water running along the gutter. Once the seal behind them fails, they drip and runs down the wall.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Drips from gutter joints and end caps
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
- End caps that drip every time it rains
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
In the older streets around St Peter's Church and Old Burial-Ground, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.
