About our gutter sealing in Newtongrange
Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. The joint is cleaned, dried and resealed with a sealant made for guttering. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. If you are dealing with trim joints where the sealant has failed and fascia boards with gaps between them, we can help, on soffit joints, roofline trims and garage door frames alike.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Newtongrange depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

Newtongrange buildings and the weather
Historic houses like Melville Castle (about 2.3 miles north-west) are a reminder that the area around Newtongrange has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
Homes close to Newtongrange Parish Church include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Rented homes near Newtongrange station change hands often, and leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

Newtongrange: your questions answered
Is Newtongrange in your area for gutter sealing?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Newtongrange is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear quote.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Newtongrange station?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we are fully insured.
Do you guarantee gutter sealing?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.
Is it possible to stop a gutter joint dripping with sealant?
In most cases, yes. If the gutter is sagging or cracked, sealing will not last, and we will tell you.
What should I tell you?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.
What we do, step by step
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. It generally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Around Newtongrange, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
- We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
- We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
- The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Move anything stored near the joints

Advice
What we cannot put right
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- Water backing up from a blocked pipe
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Sagging gutters or broken brackets
If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
- Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked
Keep downpipes clear, so water can get away. Blockages push water back along the gutter.
Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards and the wall below.
How we quote for gutter sealing
Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The amount of work
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The product the joint needs
- Any mould that needs treating
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first.
What to tell us for a quote
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- If someone has resealed it before
- The address or postcode of the job
- The rough size of the job
- The type of property
For a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will give you a quote.
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.
DIY versus a professional finish
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Do you need gutter sealing in Newtongrange?
Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go, which is why we look before we seal.
Look out for these signs:
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
- Water dripping where gutter sections meet
Managing a site like Newbattle Community High School? Then its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.
