Is Mauchline in your area for gutter sealing?

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

About our gutter sealing in Mauchline

A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Sealing it is quick if the gutter is otherwise in good order. If you have fascia boards with gaps between them and trim joints where the sealant has failed, we can put it right.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Mauchline depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Why deal with it now?

Sealant won’t clear a blocked downpipe. We look at what’s really happening and tell you if something else is needed. In a place like Mauchline, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What gutter sealing looks like in Mauchline

Historic houses like Carnell Estate (about 3.6 miles north-west) are a reminder that the area around Mauchline has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth. The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, which means gutter, fascia and roofline joints has to cope with a lot of rain.

If you let a flat or house near Auchinleck station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. If you live in an older home near Mauchline Old Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken
  • Guttering that needs replacing

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Gutter joints
  • Soffit joints
  • Garage door frames
  • uPVC fascias
  • Roofline trims
  • Gutter end caps

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

What affects the quote in Mauchline

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Access and height
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The type of sealant required
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • How we’d reach the joints

We quote each job on its own. Simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
  • Look along the fascias for open joints

A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. If it drops, the joints will open.

Split sealant on fascias and trims lets water in behind. Resealing early protects the boards and the wall below.

How the job changes by surface

Gutter joints

A dripping joint does not always mean a failed gutter. Resealing is usually enough.

Garage door frames

Failed sealant around a garage door frame lets water in. We cut it out and reseal.

How it works

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work generally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter is not broken or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
