About our gutter sealing in Catrine

Failed sealant round a garage door frame lets rain blow in. The frame joint is cut out and resealed with an exterior sealant. If you’re dealing with failed sealant on a garage door frame and wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint, we can help, on roofline trims, gutter end caps and garage door frames alike.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Catrine depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Common problems we fix in Catrine

Stop ends take pressure from water running along the gutter. Once the seal behind them fails, they drip.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet
  • Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint
  • Old gutter sealant that has let go
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them

For landlords with property near Auchinleck station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

Catrine questions

Do you cover Catrine for gutter sealing?

Yes, Catrine is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Catrine?

Yes, Catrine is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you clean gutters?

Only around the joints we seal, so the sealant can bond. Cleaning the whole run is a separate job.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Not on its own. A sagging gutter pulls its joints apart, so the brackets need fixing first.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you install new fascias or gutters?

We do not replace gutters or fascias. We’ll tell you if the gutter needs replacing so you can call the right trade.

How we quote for gutter sealing

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether the work is at height

The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Where the property is
  • The rough size of the job

If you are in Catrine and need gutter sealing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

The process

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. For a place like Catrine, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Watch for drips in a downpour

Look at fascia and trim joints when you’re checking the gutters. Splits are easier to seal early.

The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we will tell you.

Walls and rooflines in Catrine

Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. With historic houses such as Dumfries House (about 3.5 miles south) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Catrine as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

If you live in an older home near Catrine Parish Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

What happens if it’s left?

Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
