Gutter sealing in Mail

Gutter sealing in Mail

Garage door frames let rain in when the sealant around them fails. The frame joint is cut out and resealed with an exterior sealant. Typical jobs include fascia boards with gaps between them and earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off, on garage door frames, gutter end caps and gutter joints.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

What gutter sealing looks like in Mail

Mail is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

Homes close to Mail Church include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Mail is about 9 miles south of Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. For gutter sealing in and around Mail, it’s easy to get a quote: please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. We cover the Shetland Islands from our Crawley base. Our area takes in 63 places across the Shetland Islands.

What sealant work cannot fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Brackets that have snapped or loosened
  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surface by surface

Garage door frames

Frame-to-brick joints face the weather. We use a sealant made for outdoor joints.

Gutter end caps

We seal end caps from the inside where we can reach, after cleaning and drying.

Should I try it myself first?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

What affects the quote in Mail

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The number and length of the joints

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Where the property is

Want a quote for gutter sealing? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before work begins.

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours for a typical job. Somewhere like Mail may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Do you need gutter sealing in Mail?

Sealant on fascias and trims weathers like any outdoor joint. It hardens, shrinks and splits after some years.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Open joints in fascias and soffits

In and around Mail, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Common questions in Mail

Do you cover Mail for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Mail is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Does the coastal weather in Mail affect outside sealant?

Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Do you work on high-level gutters?

It depends on the access. Let us know the height and the ground below when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can a leaking gutter joint be sealed?

In most cases, yes. A sagging or cracked gutter needs more than sealant and we will say so.

Where are you based?

We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can you fit new guttering?

That is not something we do. Our work is sealing joints; replacing gutters and fascias needs a gutter or roofline installer.
