Need gutter sealing in Hoswick?

Gutter sealing in Hoswick

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work, not replacing the gutter. If you have end caps that drip every time it rains and open joints in fascias and soffits, we can help, on roofline trims, gutter end caps and soffit joints alike.

External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Hoswick is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Hoswick and across the Shetland Islands.

How the visit works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Hoswick buildings and the weather

Hoswick is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

Whether the job is in Hoswick itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. Around Hoswick, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Hoswick is about 11 miles south of Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands. Whether you’re in the middle of Hoswick or further out, we cover gutter sealing for every kind of property. Hoswick is one of 63 towns and villages in the Shetland Islands where we work for gutter sealing.

Work in ZE2 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need gutter sealing at a property on Greenfield Road and Brakefield Road or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. We also cover Sandwick (1 mile east), Levenwick (2 miles south), Bigton (3 miles south-west), Mail (3 miles north) and Bremirehoull (3 miles north). Larger places within reach include Lerwick (11 miles north), Sound (11 miles north) and Scalloway (10 miles north). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so please mention your location when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How we quote for gutter sealing

You will get a clear quote before work begins. It takes into account:

  • The amount of work
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The problem you’ve noticed

If you’re in Hoswick and need gutter sealing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

When something else is needed

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Rotten or damaged fascia boards
  • A gutter length that has split

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Gutter joints
  • uPVC fascias

Hoswick: your questions answered

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Hoswick any different?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Can you do gutter sealing in Hoswick?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Hoswick is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available, and we’ll agree it with you first.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Why deal with it now?

New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint a reseal is all it needs. If it’s broken or sagging, a gutter installer needs to look. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Look at the gutters while it’s raining
  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
  • Keep downpipes clear

A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. Movement will pull the joints open again.

The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we’ll tell you.

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

How the job changes by surface

uPVC fascias

Our work is the joints, not new fascias. Damaged boards need replacing by an installer.

Gutter end caps

End caps are resealed where they meet the gutter once clean and dry.
