Why act early in Four Marks

New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks, resealing is the sensible fix. If it has failed, we’ll tell you. Homes in smaller places like Four Marks can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Gutter sealing in Four Marks, done properly

Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. They’re sealed in a matching colour where possible. We are often asked to deal with dripping gutter ends and damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter, on garage door frames, uPVC fascias and gutter joints.

Homes around Four Marks range from older cottages to newer houses, with walls and rooflines of every type. Older gutters and trims need their joints resealed; newer brick and render need their movement joints kept sound.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Four Marks

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Alton station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Is Four Marks within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

How long will you be here?

As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

How long before the joint can be used?

Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We’ll tell you how long to leave the joint.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Can you fit new guttering?

That’s not something we do. Our work is sealing joints; replacing gutters and fascias needs a gutter or roofline installer.

How we quote for gutter sealing

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number and length of the joints

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What to tell us for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Where the property is
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will talk you through the work before giving you a price.

Four Marks buildings and the weather

The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. Historic houses like Bentworth Hall (about 2.7 miles north) are a reminder that the area around Four Marks has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

For landlords with property near Alton station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Good Shepherd, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain. Schools such as Four Marks Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.

How the visit works

Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In a smaller place like Four Marks, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

Before we arrive

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice

Can I do it myself?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

What the job involves on each surface

Roofline trims

We reseal trim joints with an exterior sealant suited to the material.

Gutter end caps

Drips from a stop end run down the brickwork. It’s a small job to fix.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. Splits are easier to seal early.

Split sealant on fascias and trims lets water in behind. Sealing it early keeps the boards behind dry.
