Gutter sealing in Cove
Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits, along with roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints rather than new guttering. Common call-outs are for garage door frames letting rain in and damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter, across uPVC fascias, garage door frames and roofline trims.
External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Cove is planned around the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
How the job changes by surface
Soffit joints
Open soffit joints let draughts in. We close them with a suitable sealant.
Gutter end caps
End caps are resealed where they meet the gutter, after cleaning and drying.

Outside joints around Cove
Cove is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.
If you live in an older home near Cockburnspath Parish Church, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. In and around Cove, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What sealant work can’t fix
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Blocked downpipes
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Keeping the joints in good condition
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
- Check the gutters during heavy rain
- Keep downpipes clear
- Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked, so water can get away. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.
A drip from a gutter joint won’t stop on its own. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains, which can lead to staining and damp.
The process
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. It generally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Outside jobs in Cove need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- We make sure everything is dry.
- The sealant is applied and finished.
- We check our work before we leave.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing
Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The product the joint needs
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.
Helping us quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The address or postcode of the job
- The type of property
For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll send you a clear quote before any work starts.

How long will you be here?

Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Do you clean gutters?
We clear debris around the joints we are sealing. A full clean of the gutters isn’t part of it.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Which products do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.
Landlord and commercial work in Cove
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
