Gutter sealing near Eyemouth

About our gutter sealing in Eyemouth

A leaking gutter joint marks the wall and wets the ground underneath. Resealing the joint is often all it needs if the gutter isn’t damaged. We work on uPVC fascias, roofline trims and soffit joints, and people most often call us about water dripping where gutter sections meet and earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

Outside joints around Eyemouth

Eyemouth is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

If you let a flat or house near Reston station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

Eyemouth is in the Scottish Borders. Anywhere in TD14, we cover gutter sealing for homes and businesses. Across the Scottish Borders, we cover 89 places, and Eyemouth is one of them. We also work in Edinburgh, about 43 miles from Eyemouth.

We cover every part of the TD14 postcode area for gutter sealing and the streets around it. That includes homes and businesses on High Street, Market Place and St Ebba Road and the roads around them. With the A1107 and B6355 close by, Eyemouth is simple for us to get to for gutter sealing. Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep downpipes clear
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Look at the gutters while it’s raining
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.

A leaking garage frame lets water reach stored items. A reseal sorts it.

What the job involves on each surface

Garage door frames

Frame-to-brick joints face the weather. An exterior sealant suits them.

uPVC fascias

Fascia board joints can open up. They’re sealed tidily in a suitable colour.

What happens on the day

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Somewhere like Eyemouth may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Eyemouth questions

Does the coastal weather in Eyemouth affect outside sealant?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Is Eyemouth within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Eyemouth, along with the rest of our area.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Which products do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we are using.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.

How long does the job take?

As a guide, most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Bigger jobs take longer, and we’ll tell you how long to expect.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Leave it or put it right?

Replacing fascias because of open joints is generally unnecessary. A neat seal closes the gaps as long as the boards are in good condition. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.
