Reston Gutter Sealing
Gutter sealing across Reston and nearby, with every bit of old sealant taken out first.
- Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
- Rain getting in around a garage door
- Stop ends leaking at the end of a run
What gutter sealing looks like in Reston
Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
If you live in an older home near Reston Church Of Scotland, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Letting a property close to Reston station? Then leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

Gutter sealing in Reston
It’s easy to live with a dripping gutter joint, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Sealing it is quick while the gutter is still sound. Typical jobs include old gutter sealant that has let go and cracked sealant along roofline trims, on roofline trims, garage door frames and uPVC fascias.
Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Reston
Can you do gutter sealing in Reston?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Reston is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.
Will you come out to Reston?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Do the sealants smell?
Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.
Can you reach high gutters?
Single-storey work is the most straightforward. We’ll confirm the access for higher gutters before we book.
Do you guarantee gutter sealing?
All our work carries a 12-month guarantee.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Different surfaces, different methods
Soffit joints
Soffits sit under the eaves, where joints can open up. They’re sealed to tidy the line.
uPVC fascias
Our work is the joints, not new fascias. Damaged boards need replacing by an installer.
Can I do it myself?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Why it’s worth doing now in Reston
Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks, resealing is the sensible fix. If it has failed, we will tell you. In an older home around Reston, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
- Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Make sure downpipes are not blocked
Look at fascia and trim joints when you are checking the gutters. A small split is quicker to put right.
If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches inside.
What we do, step by step
