Gutter sealing in Coupar Angus

Gutter sealing in Coupar Angus, done properly

We do not replace gutters, fascias or roofs. Sealant fixes joints; it won’t fix a broken bracket, a cracked section or a blocked downpipe. We’re often asked to deal with stop ends leaking at the end of a run and open joints in fascias and soffits, across soffit joints, gutter end caps and roofline trims.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Coupar Angus depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Walls and rooflines in Coupar Angus

With historic houses such as Balhary House (about 4.9 miles north-east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Coupar Angus as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

In and around Coupar Angus, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Historic houses such as Balhary House, about 4.9 miles north-east, show how far back building around Coupar Angus goes, and older homes nearby need a sealant that suits their walls.

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on. The job usually takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Outside jobs in Coupar Angus need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Advice

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Why it’s worth doing now in Coupar Angus

You do not need new fascias just because the joints have opened. Sealing the joints tidies them up if the boards are sound. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

Why Coupar Angus customers choose us

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Check the gutters during heavy rain

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards.

How we quote for gutter sealing

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • How much there is to do

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Where the property is
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The rough size of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.

What we cannot put right

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • Problems with the roof covering
  • Guttering that needs replacing

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
