FAQs for Coupar Angus

Will you come out to Coupar Angus?

Yes, Coupar Angus is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you cover Coupar Angus for external mastic?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Coupar Angus is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

How do I get a quote for external mastic in Coupar Angus?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Coupar Angus.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We’re fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Can you seal joints between render and window frames?

Yes. Materials like render, brick, metal and uPVC all move differently, so the joint between them must be flexible. The sealant is matched to both sides.

External mastic in Coupar Angus, done properly

A movement joint is only as good as its depth. Backing rod controls how deep the sealant goes and keeps it off the back of the joint, so it bonds to the two sides only and can stretch. If you have brick movement joints where the sealant has split and weathered mastic that no longer stretches, we can put it right.

Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

What sealant work can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Movement that is more than a sealant joint can take
  • Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
  • Loose or hollow render, which needs re-rendering

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Copings & trims
  • Concrete & block
  • Joints between brick and frames
  • Brickwork movement joints
  • Render & cladding joints
  • Façade panels

What the job involves on each surface

Render joints

Render is weaker at the surface than brick, so a sealant that stretches easily protects the edges. Priming is done where the sealant calls for it.

Joints between dissimilar materials

Wherever two materials meet, they move differently. We seal the joint with a flexible exterior sealant.

How it works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself normally takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation, depending on how much there is to do. Outdoor work around Coupar Angus depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We inspect the joints and agree which need resealing and how they’ll be reached.
  2. We cut out the failed sealant and rake out any dirt or growth.
  3. Both sides are cleaned back to sound material and primed if needed.
  4. Backing rod goes in next, setting the depth and keeping the sealant off the back of the joint.
  5. The new sealant, chosen to suit the brick or render, is applied and tooled to a neat finish.

How to prepare

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

How to get a quote

We don’t publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
  • Deal with leaking gutters that soak the joints below
  • Wash walls gently around the sealant
  • Leave the joints unpainted unless we have said otherwise

Only paint over the joint if we have confirmed the sealant can take paint. Paint can crack on a flexible joint.

Gaps, plants or missing sealant in a joint are worth getting looked at. Earlier resealing means a smaller job and a better result.

Do you need external mastic in Coupar Angus?

Buildings move more than people expect. Clay bricks expand slightly over their life, concrete and block shrink, and everything moves with temperature and wet. All of that ends up in the joint sealant.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Weathered mastic that no longer stretches
  • Joints pointed up with cement by mistake
  • Brick movement joints where the sealant has split
  • Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint

In and around Coupar Angus, as anywhere, good external mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What to look for in a quote

  • Are they insured?
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Which colour the sealant will be

Our hiring checklist

Can I do it myself?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Coupar Angus buildings and the weather

Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

What affects the cost of external mastic

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • The amount of work
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
