How we quote for gutter sealing
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- The size of the job
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
- The old material and how stubborn it is
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
Helping us quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Roughly how big the job is
To get a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You will have a clear quote before work begins.
Gutter sealing in Coltness
We work across Coltness on leaking gutter joints and roofline trims. Single-storey and low gutters are simple to reach and if it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm what access is needed. We work on roofline trims, uPVC fascias and gutter joints, and people most often call us about failed sealant on a garage door frame and old sealant on roofline trims that has split.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Coltness depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What sealant work cannot fix
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Water backing up from a blocked pipe
- Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Soffit joints
We choose a sealant colour that suits the soffit, where one is available.
Gutter joints
A dripping joint does not always mean a failed gutter. Sealing the joint often stops it.
When to call us in Coltness
Leaves and moss hold water in the gutter. Standing water finds the weakest joint and leaks out.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off
- Rain getting in around a garage door
- Open joints in fascias and soffits
- Drips from gutter joints and end caps
For landlords with property near Cleland station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

Where is Mr Mastic based?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Coltness.
Can you match the sealant colour?
In most cases you can choose. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in and agree one before any work starts.
Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?
Not on its own. If the gutter sags, the joints keep opening, so the brackets need fixing first.
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
How long does the job take?
Typically it takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we’ll tell you how long to expect.
Coltness buildings and the weather
Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
Managing a site like St. Aidan's Primary School? Then larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing. Cambusnethan House, about 2.7 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Coltness.

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access for a typical job. Around Coltness, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First we agree which joints need sealing.
- We clean out each joint.
- The joints are dried.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Keep ladders off the guttering
- Make sure downpipes are not blocked
- Check the gutters during heavy rain
- Do not leave a sagging gutter
Look at fascia and trim joints when you are checking the gutters. Splits are easier to seal early.
A leaking garage frame lets water reach stored items. A reseal sorts it.
