Brough: your questions answered
Is Brough in your area for gutter sealing?
Yes, Brough is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear quote.
Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Brough any different?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured.
How long before the joint can be used?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint before we leave.
What does gutter sealing cost?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You will get a clear quote before any work starts.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours, and we’ll agree it with you first.
Where do you work from?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Brough, along with the rest of our area.
Gutter sealing in Brough, done properly
We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints, along with roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. We work on roofline trims, garage door frames and gutter joints, and common reasons people get in touch are leaking gutter joints and stop ends and old gutter sealant that has let go.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Different surfaces, different methods
Roofline trims
Trims along the roofline are often finished with sealant. When it splits, water can get behind.
Soffit joints
Soffits sit under the eaves, where joints can open up. They’re sealed to tidy the line.
What happens if it’s left?
Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp, so it’s worth sealing early. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we’re called out for in Brough
Sagging sections pull joints apart. Resealing a sagging joint won’t last so the brackets need attention first.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
- Rain getting in around a garage door
- Dripping gutter ends
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
Historic houses such as Castle of Mey, about 4.8 miles east, show how far back building around Brough goes, and older homes nearby need a sealant that suits their walls.
What your quote should include
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- How the colour is chosen
- What product goes in the joint
- What insurance they hold
Aftercare tips
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Look along the fascias for open joints
- Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
- Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
- Look at the gutters while it’s raining
Keep the gutters clear of leaves and moss so water does not sit on the joints. Standing water strains every seal.
A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches.
Landlord and commercial work in Brough
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
When it isn’t the sealant
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:
- Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
- A gutter length that has split
- Fascias that need replacing
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

How it works
On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work generally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Outside jobs in Brough need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
- We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
- We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Advice

What else we do in Brough
Outside joints around Brough
Brough is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. With historic houses such as Castle of Mey (about 4.8 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Brough as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.
In and around Brough, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
