How we handle gutter sealing in Askomill
Gaps along uPVC fascias and soffits look untidy and can let in water and draughts. We seal them in a colour to suit where possible. We are often asked to deal with damp patches inside below a leaking gutter and stop ends leaking at the end of a run, on roofline trims, gutter joints and soffit joints.
In and around a place like Askomill, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

What we are called out for in Askomill
When a gutter sags, its joints open. Resealing a sagging joint will not last, so the gutter needs refixing first.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
- Old gutter sealant that has let go
- Drips from gutter joints and end caps
In and around Askomill, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What the job involves on each surface
Roofline trims
We reseal trim joints with an exterior sealant.
Gutter joints
Most gutter leaks start at a joint between sections. They’re cleaned out, dried and resealed.
Outside joints around Askomill
Askomill is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, which means gutter, fascia and roofline joints has to cope with a lot of rain.
Historic houses such as Tirfergus House, about 4.1 miles south-west, show how far back building around Askomill goes, and older homes nearby need a sealant that suits their walls.

FAQs for Askomill
Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Askomill?
Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.
Is Askomill in your area for gutter sealing?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Askomill is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, regularly. We can quote for several properties at once.
Can you fit new guttering?
We do not replace gutters or fascias. We’ll tell you if the gutter needs replacing so you can call the right trade.
How long before the joint can be used?
Cure times vary by product. Before we leave, we’ll tell you the cure time.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. The old sealant has to come out completely.
How long does the job take?
It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. We will tell you when we quote.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.
Why act early in Askomill
Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. In a place like Askomill, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

How we quote for gutter sealing
You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:
- The type of sealant required
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Any mould that needs treating
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and send you a clear quote before any work starts.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- The rough size of the job
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Whether it has been sealed before
To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You will have a clear quote before we start.
How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
- Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. If it drops, the joints will open.
Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. A reseal sorts it while the frame is sound.
How it works
Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Somewhere like Askomill may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
- We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
- We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
