About our gutter sealing in Drumlemble

Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Often a reseal is enough if the gutter isn’t damaged. We are often asked to deal with old sealant on roofline trims that has split and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter, on soffit joints, garage door frames and uPVC fascias.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Drumlemble

Can you do gutter sealing in Drumlemble?

Yes, Drumlemble is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Drumlemble?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?

Yes, it’s a common job. Each joint is cleaned and sealed.

Will you clear out my gutters?

We clean the joints we are sealing and clear debris we find nearby. A full gutter clean is a separate service.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Can I do it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Why it’s worth doing now in Drumlemble

Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint, resealing is the sensible fix. If it has failed, we’ll tell you. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

How we quote for gutter sealing

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Access and height
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Any working-time requirements on site

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

What to tell us for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Somewhere like Drumlemble may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Walls and rooflines in Drumlemble

Drumlemble is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Drumlemble is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for gutter, fascia and roofline joints to keep out.

Historic houses such as Tirfergus House, about 0.7 miles south, show how far back building around Drumlemble goes.

Common problems we fix in Drumlemble

Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. A blocked downpipe makes water back up, which is why we look before we seal.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Open joints in fascias and soffits
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter

Around Drumlemble, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
