How we handle gutter sealing in Airth

Gaps along uPVC fascias and soffits look untidy and can let in water and draughts. We seal them in a colour to suit where one is available. We’re often asked to deal with damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter and quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last, across roofline trims, uPVC fascias and garage door frames.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

What we do, step by step

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outdoor work around Airth depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First we agree which joints need sealing.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. The joints are dried.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. The joints are checked once sealed.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Leave it or put it right?

Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Over time that can stain brickwork, mark render and encourage damp, so it’s worth sealing early. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before work begins.

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Sort out a dripping joint early
  • Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.

The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. We will let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.

Outside joints around Airth

Airth is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

If you let a flat or house near Alloa station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls. In and around Airth, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Quotes for gutter sealing in Airth

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The product the joint needs

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • A few photos by email, if you can

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.

Airth questions

Is Airth within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Alloa station?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?

Yes. Our work is the joints and we will let you know if a board has failed.

Should I try DIY first?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Can you match the sealant colour?

In most cases you can choose. We’ll explain which colours are available.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
