Glazing silicone in Stanley

What the job involves on each surface

Shower screens

Silicone holds the water in on frameless screens. We reseal without scratching the glass.

Glass balustrade bases

Glass balustrades sit in a channel that is often finished with sealant. When it fails, water can sit in the channel.

Glazing silicone in Stanley, done properly

Sealant on glazing doesn’t last for ever. Sun, rain and movement wear it down, and once it cracks, water follows. Resealing puts that right. We work on glass balustrade bases, glass-to-glass joints and shower screens, and the jobs we see most are glazing silicone that has cracked or come away and stained, discoloured glazing silicone.

Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Stanley is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee.

What affects the quote in Stanley

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The amount of work
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number of rooms or windows

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The address or postcode of the job

There’s no standard price list. Instead, we send you a clear quote for your job. To arrange one, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Stanley: your questions answered

Is glazing silicone in Stanley guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you cover Stanley for glazing silicone?

Yes, Stanley is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do you fit new glass or sealed units?

That is not something we do. A misted unit has failed inside, and a glazier needs to replace it.

Where are you based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Stanley, along with the rest of our area.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Is it possible to redo the silicone on a shower screen?

Yes. We cut out the old silicone and reseal the glass-to-wall and glass-to-tray joints.

Do the sealants smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

How long before the joint can be used?

It depends on the product and the conditions. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Wipe the screen down after showering
  • Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
  • Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
  • Stick to mild cleaners on glass

Clear the conservatory gutters regularly so water doesn’t back up against the seals. Overflowing gutters can cause leaks of their own.

Do not leave lifting or mouldy silicone on glazing. Peeling silicone lets water in behind and the leak gets worse.

What happens if it’s left?

Leaks get worse, not better. Left, water can mark floors, damage plaster and rot timber so early action saves a bigger repair. In a place like Stanley, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Doing several joints on one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Frames and glazing around Stanley

Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

Around Stanley, as everywhere, glazing silicone is only as good as the preparation behind it. For an older house near a landmark such as St Columba's Episcopal Church, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is normally the first place rain gets in.

Stanley is about 6 miles north of Perth, in Perth and Kinross. Jobs in Stanley get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Our Perth and Kinross coverage runs to 107 places, and Stanley is one of them. You can also see our page for Dundee, roughly 18 miles from Stanley.

All of PH1 is covered for glazing silicone. Streets in the area include Station Road, Murray Place and Mill Street. What we do, step by step

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job, and the area is left clean. Outside jobs in Stanley need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We find where water is getting in and check whether it’s a sealant joint.
  2. The old sealant is removed from the glass and frame without scratching them.
  3. The glass and frame are cleaned and degreased.
  4. Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
  5. We check the joints and, where safe, run water over them.

Advice

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Honest limits

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Frames that have decayed or split
  • A broken pane or roof panel
  • A roof that has moved or dropped

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
