Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business

Glazing silicone in New Alyth, done properly

A frameless shower screen depends on its silicone. Leaks normally come from the wall joint or the tray joint, and we reseal both. We work on glass-to-glass joints, glass-to-frame joints and rooflights, and people most often call us about a quick top-up bead that didn’t last and mouldy sealant around glass panels.

In and around a place like New Alyth, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Exposed frames and sills take the full force of wind-driven rain.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Do not use a blade near the sealant
  • Get a new leak looked at quickly
  • Look over the glazing joints once a year
  • Squeegee the shower screen after each use

Gentle products are best near the sealant. Strong solvents can soften or mark it.

Damp patches, drips and condensation along a joint are worth checking. It may be sealant, or something else and we’ll find out which.

Can I do it myself?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Surface by surface

Glass-to-glass joints

Frameless glass corners and panels are joined with silicone. We renew it with a clear or matching glazing silicone.

Glass-to-frame joints

Old sealant is removed carefully from the glass and reseal with glazing silicone.

New Alyth questions

What guarantee comes with glazing silicone in New Alyth?

All our work, in New Alyth and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do glazing silicone in New Alyth?

Yes, New Alyth is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can I do it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

How the visit works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for most jobs, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. We clean the glass and frame so the new silicone bonds.
  4. A neutral-cure glazing silicone is applied and tooled.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

Before we arrive

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

Frames and glazing around New Alyth

Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.

Homes close to St Ninian's Episcopal Church include some older properties, and the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Failed flashing around a conservatory
  • Frames that have decayed or split
  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Conservatory frames

Common problems we fix in New Alyth

The wrong sealant is a common cause. Not every silicone sticks properly to glass and vinegar-smelling acetoxy silicone can attack some metals.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Leaks from the base of a shower screen
  • Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
  • A quick top-up bead that didn’t last
  • Failed sealant around rooflight glass

In and around New Alyth, as anywhere, good glazing silicone starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
