Glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Hamstead

We don’t replace glass and a misted double-glazed unit needs a glazier. What we do is the silicone around the glass, which is where many leaks start. If you are dealing with water running down inside the glass and stained, discoloured glazing silicone, we can help, whatever the surface.

Homes in small places like Hamstead often stand in the open, with little to shelter their windows from wind and rain. That exposure dries out and cracks the mastic around frames and sills faster.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Hamstead and everywhere else we cover.

Frames and glazing around Hamstead

Hamstead is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Historic houses such as Swainston Manor, about 3.3 miles south-east, show how far back building around Hamstead goes, and older homes nearby need a sealant that suits their walls. If you let a flat or house near Lymington Pier station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.

Hamstead is about 6 miles south-east of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. We provide glazing silicone to householders, landlords and businesses in Hamstead, as part of our work across the Isle of Wight. 125 places in the Isle of Wight are on our list, large and small. How we quote for glazing silicone

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Where the property is
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

We don’t publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What happens on the day

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Hamstead needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. The joint is cleaned and degreased.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

How the job changes by surface

Shower screens

Silicone holds the water in on frameless screens. We reseal without scratching the glass.

Glass-to-frame joints

The sealant must stick to glass and frame alike. We choose a product that suits both.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A broken pane or roof panel
  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof
  • Rotten or badly damaged frames

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Rooflights
  • Shower screens
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Conservatory frames
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass balustrade bases

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid strong solvents on or near the sealant
  • Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
  • Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Do not use a blade near the sealant

Squeegee a shower screen after each shower and keep the room ventilated. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water travels along the frame and into the wall, so get it looked at when you first see it.

FAQs for Hamstead

Is glazing silicone in a coastal place like Hamstead any different?

Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.

Do you cover smaller places like Hamstead?

Yes. Hamstead is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Just list everything you need and we will quote it together.

Do you guarantee glazing sealant work?

Our one-year guarantee covers every job.

Is it worth trying it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Do you fit new glass or sealed units?

Glass replacement is not our trade. We look after the sealant joints and can tell you if a unit seems to have gone.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few photos.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we’re fully insured too.
