Hollywater Fire Rated Sealant
Intumescent and fire-rated sealant around gaps, frames and service penetrations in Hollywater, with a one-year guarantee on every job. Ask us for a quote.
- Standard silicone or caulk in a fire-stopping gap
- Open joints along the top of partitions
- Unsealed gaps where pipes and cables go through a wall
Can I do it myself?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
Fire rated sealant for homes and businesses in Hollywater
Deciding which gaps need fire stopping isn’t our role; your assessor, designer or building control sets that out. What we do is apply the right product to that specification, properly and neatly. We work on flats & HMOs, service penetrations and door frames, and common reasons people get in touch are standard silicone or caulk in a fire-stopping gap and door frames with gaps between frame and wall.
For holiday lets, converted business premises or a community building near Hollywater, washroom and kitchen sealant and any fire-rated joints need the same attention as anywhere.
Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Hollywater and across Hampshire.

Different surfaces, different methods
Masonry and concrete
Brick, block and concrete walls and floors are sealed with products tested in masonry. We clean out dust and debris before sealing so the seal has something sound to bond to.
Flats and HMOs
Converted houses often have gaps around old and new services. We seal the ones on your specification with a tested product.
Workplaces and buildings in Hollywater
In England, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment for workplaces and for the common parts of blocks of flats, and gaps around services are often picked up there. We work to the specification you’re given, installing the product to its tested details.
If you look after a church, hall or community building such as St Mark's Sacred Church, service openings in its walls need the right fire-rated sealant, as in any building. Rented homes near Liphook station change hands often, and any gap left by new services in shared walls should be closed with a fire-rated product. Schools such as Woodlea Primary School are buildings too, and gaps opened by contractors for new cabling are a common finding in schools and offices.

Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Do not fill fire-stopping gaps with ordinary foam or silicone
- Keep the record of products and locations with your fire safety documents
- Include hidden areas like risers in routine checks
- Tell trades working in the building that fire seals must be put back
Let contractors know where fire stopping has been done, and make sure anything they disturb is resealed with a suitable product. Later work is a common cause of damaged fire stopping.
Open gaps do not only matter in a fire: they also let noise, draughts and sometimes pests through. Sealing them early helps on every front.
What we can’t put right
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- Issuing a fire rating or certificate for a building
- Problems with the door itself rather than the gap around the frame
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think.

Hollywater: your questions answered
Will you come out to Hollywater?
Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do fire rated sealant in Hollywater?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Hollywater is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job.
Can tenants book the work?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure your landlord agrees.
How long does fire rated sealant take?
Typically it takes from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.
What does intumescent mean?
An intumescent material expands when it’s heated. Many fire-rated sealants work this way, but not all.
Do you carry out fire risk assessments?
No. We follow the requirements from your assessor, designer or building control.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, always. There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.
How the visit works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access, including the tidy-up. Somewhere like Hollywater needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- Access to each area is agreed so the work can run in order.
- Old, damaged or unsuitable sealant is removed.
- Dust and loose debris are cleaned from each gap.
- The fire-rated or intumescent sealant is applied and tooled to the tested detail.
- We record what was done and flag anything that needs a different system.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored near the joints
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

What happens if it’s left?
Paying for fire stopping that has to be redone is a false economy. Work that does not follow the tested detail may have to come out again when the building is next checked. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Hollywater, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or email us for an honest opinion and a quote.
