External mastic for Worth homes and businesses

External mastic in Worth

Many failed façade joints only get noticed once there’s a stain or a damp patch inside. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a matching colour. Common call-outs are for moss and dirt in joints with no sealant left and movement joints with cracked, split or missing sealant, on render & cladding joints, façade panels and copings & trims.

In a smaller place like Worth, some homes face open ground, so exposed walls and rooflines take more wind-driven rain. That is where gutter joints and wall joints tend to fail first.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Worth and across West Sussex. We can quote a run of properties together.

Common problems we fix in Worth

The wrong product in a moving joint is a classic cause. A stiff, general-purpose sealant can’t cope with a joint that moves a lot, and it tears off the sides.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Panel joints letting water in
  • Brick movement joints where the sealant has split
  • Damp patches traced to an open external joint
  • Moss and dirt in joints with no sealant left

Homes close to St Nicholas' Church include some older properties, and old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

Our hiring checklist

How the visit works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Parking around Worth is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First, the joints are inspected and the access agreed.
  2. Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
  3. The faces are brushed clean and primed where the product requires it.
  4. Backing rod sized to the joint goes in to set the depth.
  5. The exterior sealant is applied, tooled and checked along its length.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

How to get a quote

Advice

Walls and rooflines in Worth

Worth is part of Crawley, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes date from the post-war decades and were built in phases, so neighbouring houses often have rooflines and wall joints of the same age, wearing out at the same time. Historic houses like Gravetye Manor (about 4.2 miles south-east) are a reminder that the area around Worth has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

Letting a property close to Three Bridges station? Then outside joints that have cracked can let damp into a rental, so check them between lets. Schools such as Maidenbower Junior School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Worth is about 2 miles east of Crawley, in West Sussex. Worth gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Our West Sussex coverage runs to 371 places, Worth among them.

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

What the job involves on each surface

Brickwork movement joints

People sometimes point up a brick movement joint by mistake. If that is happened, we rake it out and reseal it properly if the joint can be cleared.

Copings and trims

Copings expand and contract through the day, so the joints need a sealant that stays flexible year round.

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Cracking across the wall rather than at a joint
  • Damp that isn’t coming from the joint
  • Loose or hollow render, which needs re-rendering

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think.

Worth questions

Is it worth replacing old sealant in an older home in Worth?

If it hasn’t been replaced for some years, it’s usually worth it. Sealant doesn’t last for ever, and its life depends on use, cleaning and weather, and many homes in Worth may already be on their second or third set.

Do you cover smaller places like Worth?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before resealing.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

How much does external mastic cost in Worth?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Is there any odour?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Why deal with it now?

Resealing a run of joints in one go is generally better than patching one at a time. They’ve weathered the same way and it means sorting access once. In an older home around Worth, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
