Trusted external mastic in Rigside

External mastic for homes and businesses in Rigside

Low-level joints can normally be done from the ground. Where joints are higher up, tell us about the building when you get in touch and we’ll confirm what access is needed. Common call-outs are for rigid filler in a joint that should flex and joints where the bead has come unstuck, on façade panels, concrete & block and brickwork movement joints.

Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Rigside as everywhere else we work.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Cracking across the wall rather than at a joint
  • Subsidence or other structural problems
  • Damp that isn’t coming from the joint

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work in Rigside

  • Façade panels
  • Render & cladding joints
  • Concrete & block
  • Brickwork movement joints
  • Joints between brick and frames
  • Copings & trims

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Questions from Rigside

Will you come out to Rigside?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you do external mastic in Rigside?

Yes, Rigside is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

How long before the joint can be used?

Cure times vary by product and the conditions. Before we leave, we’ll tell you the cure time.

What is backing rod for?

The foam is closed-cell backing rod. It stops the sealant going in too deep and bonding to three sides.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

The process

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. Somewhere like Rigside may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by walking round the building and agreeing the joints and the access.
  2. Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
  3. Joint faces are cleaned back and primed if the sealant needs it.
  4. Backing rod sized to the joint goes in to set the depth.
  5. We apply the sealant, tool it and check the whole run.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Aftercare tips

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Leave the joints unpainted unless we have said otherwise
  • Check external joints each spring
  • Point out the joints to other trades
  • Get split or bare joints resealed while the damage is small

Keep the joints clear of soil, plants and climbing growth. Anything that holds water against the joint wears it out sooner.

Leaks behind façade panels and render often go unseen. By the time there’s a damp patch, the damage can be well established so early resealing is worth it.

Why act early in Rigside

Low-modulus sealants stretch easily, so they put less strain on the joint edges. That matters on brick, render and concrete, which can be weaker at the face. A stiffer product can damage the joint edge as it fails. In a place like Rigside, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.

Why choose Mr Mastic in Rigside

Quotes for external mastic in Rigside

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • How much there is to do

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the property is
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

Rigside buildings and the weather

Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Whether the job is in Rigside itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Rigside, as anywhere, good external mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Joints between dissimilar materials

Joints where frames, sills or panels meet the wall are common leak points. The old joint is removed and a sealant that bonds to both sides goes in.

Copings and trims

Metal and stone copings both move with temperature, so the joints need a sealant that stays flexible year round.
