Moscow External Mastic
Sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints in Moscow, with a one-year guarantee on every job. Ask us for a quote.
- Failed seals between different materials
- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
- Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint
How we handle external mastic in Moscow
Many failed façade joints only get noticed once there’s a stain or a damp patch inside. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a matching colour. If you have old sealant gone brittle and cracked and water getting into walls through failed joints, we can help, whatever the surface.
In and around a place like Moscow, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering.
Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Surface by surface
Render joints
Render is weaker at the surface than brick, so a low-modulus sealant is kinder to the joint edges. Priming is done where the sealant calls for it.
Cladding and façade panels
Panel systems often rely on sealant between and around the panels. Each joint gets a sealant that suits the panel and its movement.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before we start. The work normally takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. Somewhere like Moscow may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We inspect the joints and agree which need resealing and how they’ll be reached.
- The old mastic and anything lodged in the joint is removed.
- We clean both faces of the joint and prime them where the product calls for it.
- Backing rod goes in next, setting the depth and keeping the sealant off the back of the joint.
- We gun in a flexible exterior sealant in a colour that suits the wall and tool it neatly.
How to prepare
- Mention any tricky access
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

When something else is needed
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- Walls that need new movement joints cut into them
- Loose or hollow render, which needs re-rendering
- Rising or penetrating damp from elsewhere in the wall
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Do you need external mastic in Moscow?
Poor preparation causes many early failures: dusty or wet faces, no primer where one was needed, or old sealant left in. The new sealant then lets go long before it should.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Moss and dirt in joints with no sealant left
- Cracked joints where brick meets render or frames
- Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
- Panel joints letting water in
For landlords with property near Kilmarnock station, split movement joints are easy to miss on a rental until damp shows inside.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Outside joints around Moscow
Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Loudoun Academy, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Why it’s worth doing now in Moscow
Running new sealant over the old bead rarely lasts. The new layer cannot bond properly to old, weathered material, so the old joint is cut out fully first. In a place like Moscow, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.
