What affects the quote in Tighnabruaich

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

We quote each job on its own. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.

About our bathroom resealing in Tighnabruaich

We fill the bath before sealing it. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead is not stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people get in touch are black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and failed sealant on the screen profile.

In and around a place like Tighnabruaich, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Tighnabruaich as everywhere else we work.

Tighnabruaich: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Tighnabruaich?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is bathroom resealing in Tighnabruaich guaranteed?

All our work, in Tighnabruaich and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. We cover Tighnabruaich and the rest of Argyll and Bute.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams in Tighnabruaich and across Argyll and Bute. We can quote a run of properties together, and we’re fully insured.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Tighnabruaich

With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead

Homes close to Parish Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

10 questions to ask before booking

Different surfaces, different methods

Baths

The long joint down the side of a bath is where most leaks start, particularly where there’s a shower over the bath. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone, tooled so water can’t sit on it.

Sinks & splashbacks

Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Tighnabruaich

Tighnabruaich is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Around Tighnabruaich, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What happens on the day

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and the area is left clean. Somewhere like Tighnabruaich may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Check the sealant now and then. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, and if anything looks wrong, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.
