Bathroom & kitchen resealing in Terregles, Dumfries and Galloway
Problem with your baths, showers and worktops in Terregles? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Terregles
Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and gaps between the worktop and the wall.
A bathroom in a place like Terregles gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

How it works
Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Around Terregles, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
There’s no set price list. What we look at:
- When we can work, for business premises
- Whether the work is at height
- The size of the job
- How many areas need sealing
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- The type of property

Why act early in Terregles
Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it cannot stick to what’s underneath. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it, and the next reseal means two layers to cut out. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
Why us?
- Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
- We are fully insured

Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

Honest limits
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
