About our bathroom resealing in Surrex

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. We work on sinks & splashbacks, baths and kitchen worktops & upstands, and common reasons people get in touch are a joint torn by a bath that flexes and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop.

For a small place like Surrex, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Surrex and everywhere else we cover.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Surrex

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Whether the work is at height
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Surrex

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Surrex. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Homes close to St Peter ad Vincula include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Rented homes near Kelvedon station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What we’re called out for in Surrex

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall

If you look after a building such as Honywood Community Science School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • What the cure time is
  • Are they insured?
  • The length of the guarantee

Choosing a sealant specialist

When it is not the sealant

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams in Surrex and across Essex. We can quote a run of properties together, and we’re fully insured.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.

What we do, step by step

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. The job normally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere like Surrex needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
