Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms

Bathroom resealing in Stoer

A bead that has gone black, split or come away is worth sorting before it lets water through. A photo of the joints helps when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and you will get a clear quote for bathroom resealing in Stoer. We work on baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about water getting behind the bath panel and splits where the tray meets the wall.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Stoer as everywhere else we work.

What affects the quote in Stoer

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • How many areas need sealing

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

Can I do it myself?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Why act early in Stoer

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

Why book with us

  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants
  • Tidy, careful work
  • Colour picked to suit the job
  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas

What bathroom resealing looks like in Stoer

Stoer is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

For jobs in and around Stoer, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Stoer questions

Will you come out to Stoer?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Stoer?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

What do you put in the joint?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Highland.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Move toiletries away from the joint

Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, as they hold water against it. Squeegeeing the walls and tray after use helps the joint dry.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

When to call us in Stoer

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Two layers of silicone, both failing

In and around Stoer, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • Are they insured?
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared

Our hiring checklist

How the visit works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The job generally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen from start to finish. Outside jobs in Stoer need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
