Bathroom resealing in Stor, done properly

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Stor. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and people most often call us about leaking joints on a shower screen and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.

A bathroom in a place like Stor gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

The process

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is in most cases. Outdoor work around Stor depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention any tricky access

What happens if it’s left?

You don’t need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. A new bead often brings the whole room back, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us. In an older home around Stor, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Why us?

  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • A 12-month guarantee on all work
  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
  • Colour picked to suit the job

Stor homes and their sealant

Stor is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Around Stor, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Stor (Gaelic: Stoer) is in Highland. Wherever you are in the IV27 postcode area, we can carry out bathroom resealing at your property. Our Highland coverage runs to 253 places, and Stor is one of them.

All of IV27 is covered for bathroom resealing, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Neighbouring places we cover for bathroom resealing include Stoer (1 mile south-west), Lochinver (5 miles south-east), An Druim Beag (5 miles north-east), Scourie More (11 miles north-east) and Scourie (12 miles north-east). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.

What sealant work cannot fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Common questions in Stor

Is bathroom resealing in Stor guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you cover smaller places like Stor?

Yes. Stor is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How long will the resealing take?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade

Check the sealant now and then. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, so if something does not look right, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

Common problems we fix in Stor

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, so a rushed job can start to lift early.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

For jobs in and around Stor, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Stor

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • A few pictures by email, if you can

If you’re in Stor and need bathroom resealing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you will get a clear quote before work begins.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
