Bathroom resealing in Shieldhill

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Shieldhill. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. If you have water getting behind the bath panel and water getting behind the kitchen upstand, we can help, on basins & vanity units, baths and sinks & splashbacks alike.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Shieldhill work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

How the visit works

The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating. Expect the work to take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere like Shieldhill may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Landlords, agents and businesses in Shieldhill

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Bathroom resealing around Shieldhill

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Managing a site like Graeme High School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What sealant work can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

FAQs for Shieldhill

I let a flat near Falkirk High station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Shieldhill?

Yes. Shieldhill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

It takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. We will confirm how long your job needs when we quote.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is usually around 24 hours. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Laminate worktops swell if water gets into the core. A sound joint along the back edge stops that, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

Common problems we fix in Shieldhill

With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black

Letting a property close to Falkirk High station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Choosing a sealant specialist

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
