Scatness: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Scatness?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do bathroom resealing in Scatness?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Scatness is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

How long will the resealing take?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?

Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Bathroom resealing in Scatness, done properly

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. Common call-outs are for damp behind the bath or under the tray and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting, on baths, kitchen worktops & upstands and shower trays & enclosures.

Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

Common problems we fix in Scatness

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting

Whether the job is in Scatness itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Before booking anyone

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

Bathroom resealing around Scatness

Scatness is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In and around Scatness, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Scatness is in the Shetland Islands. We carry out bathroom resealing for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Scatness, as part of our work across the Shetland Islands. We cover 63 towns and villages across the Shetland Islands, from the larger towns to small villages.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

How the visit works

Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and the area is left clean. Somewhere like Scatness may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any tricky access

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Why it’s worth doing now in Scatness

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and send you a clear quote before we start.
