How we handle bathroom resealing in Reigate

It isn’t only bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are a reseal done over the top of the old bead and splits where the tray meets the wall.

Reigate mixes older houses with estates built more recently, and bathrooms range from decades-old suites to brand-new ones. Either way, the sealant and grout are usually the first things to fail.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Reigate and everywhere else we cover.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that is easy

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll explain what’s involved and give you a clear quote.

When to call us in Reigate

The wrong product fails fast. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants are not designed for a joint that is wet every day, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary Magdalene, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How the visit works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Parking in a town like Reigate is normally straightforward, but tell us if there’s a driveway or any restrictions, and mention if the work is upstairs, in a flat or high on the outside.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Bathrooms and kitchens in Reigate

Reigate has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For landlords with property near Reigate station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. Schools such as Reigate Priory Community Junior School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Questions from Reigate

Do you cover Reigate for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Reigate is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing.

Do you work in hotels near Reigate?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Is white the only colour available?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

What should I tell you?

A short description and the location, with pictures by email if possible. If we need more, we will ask.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Reigate?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

What happens if it’s left?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. Around Reigate, failed sealant lets water into hidden places, such as under the floor, behind a panel or into a wall. Left alone, that means rot, damp and a bigger repair.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
