Bathroom resealing for Nunhead homes and businesses

Bathroom resealing in Nunhead

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, finished smooth so water drains away rather than collecting. We work on baths, basins & vanity units and sinks & splashbacks, and people most often call us about a joint torn by a bath that flexes and failed sealant on the screen profile.

London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up along sealant lines, in grout and on fittings. In Nunhead, bathroom resealing is as much about a room looking cared for as about keeping water out.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

When it isn’t the sealant

We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Failed grout lines across the wall

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up

Have a look at the joints every few months. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, so if something doesn’t look right, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

How it works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a London area like Nunhead, the main things to plan are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor we’ll be working on and any lift or shared entrance.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Nunhead

Could a tired shower seal in my Nunhead flat affect the neighbours below?

Yes, and the first sign is often a stain on the ceiling below. Cutting out the old sealant and laying a new bead early stops it getting that far.

I let a flat near Nunhead station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that usually means someone at home.

Do you come to Nunhead?

Yes. We cover Nunhead and the rest of Greater London. For a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What sealant do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Nunhead

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The size of the job

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

If you’re in Nunhead and need bathroom resealing, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

Leave it or put it right?

Dealing with sealant early is a short job: it takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Wait for a leak and you may be looking at panels off, drying out and redecorating too. Damp from a failed joint spreads quietly in older London brickwork and timber, and once it shows in Nunhead, the repair is bigger than a sealant job.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

When to call us in Nunhead

No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products slowly wear it down, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray

If you live in an older home near Saint Antony with Saint Silas, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What preparation is included
  • What the cure time is
  • The length of the guarantee
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant

London’s water is hard, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings. In a London flat, water from a failed bath or shower seal can reach the neighbours below, so tired sealant is best dealt with early.

Managing a site like Ivydale Primary School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. For landlords with property near Nunhead station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
