Bathroom resealing in Lydd-on-Sea

Bathroom resealing in Lydd-on-Sea

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about water getting behind the kitchen upstand and splits where the tray meets the wall.

Around Lydd-on-Sea, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

Every job is covered by our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Kent.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Lydd-on-Sea?

Baths and trays move. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below

If you live in an older home near St Peter's, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Need a quote? Please phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details. We’ll explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before work begins.

What sealant work cannot fix

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units

Lydd-on-Sea: your questions answered

Is Lydd-on-Sea within the area you cover?

Yes. Lydd-on-Sea is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Lydd-on-Sea?

All our work, in Lydd-on-Sea and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or as long as we advise for that product.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Lydd-on-Sea?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

What happens on the day

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can get on with your day. The job normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Somewhere like Lydd-on-Sea needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Related advice

Why deal with it now?

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. In a small place like Lydd-on-Sea, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Why book with us

  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
  • White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels
  • 20+ years of sealant experience

Take a look at what affects the cost or what customers say.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What the job involves on each surface

Baths

A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so we fill it with water before sealing. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point.

Sinks & splashbacks

The edge of an inset sink is a common place for water to get under the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.
