Glazing silicone in Lydd-on-Sea

Glazing silicone in Lydd-on-Sea, done properly

Frameless shower screens rely on sealant to keep water in. The joint down the wall and the one along the tray are common leak points and both get fresh anti-fungal silicone. We are often asked to deal with water getting into a conservatory at the joints and stained, discoloured glazing silicone, on rooflights, conservatory frames and shower screens.

Mastic can only go onto a dry, clean joint, so window work in Lydd-on-Sea is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to all the frames, upstairs ones included.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Kent.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

How it works

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job, and the area is left clean. Somewhere as small as Lydd-on-Sea, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We start by finding the leak and making sure sealant is the cause.
  2. Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
  3. Surfaces are cleaned with a solvent suited to glass and the frame.
  4. Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
  5. We look over every joint and, where we can, test it with water.

Advice

What we can’t put right

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. Sealant will not put right:

  • Condensation trapped between two panes
  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof
  • A broken pane or roof panel

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Rooflights
  • Conservatory frames
  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Shower screens
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass-to-frame joints

What affects the cost of glazing silicone

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • The size of the job
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The type of sealant required

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Windows and doors in Lydd-on-Sea

Lydd-on-Sea is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

If you live in an older home near St Peter's, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame. Schools such as Greatstone Primary School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.

FAQs for Lydd-on-Sea

Is Lydd-on-Sea within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does the coastal weather in Lydd-on-Sea affect outside sealant?

Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

What does glazing silicone cost?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, we do. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.

Will resealing stop my conservatory leaking?

Yes, when the leak is a failed sealant joint. If the cause is the roof, a panel or a unit, we will say so.

Is it possible to redo the silicone on a shower screen?

We can. The old bead comes off without marking the glass before cleaning and resealing.

Can you reseal the base of a glass balustrade?

Yes, we reseal the joint at the base channel. Fitting glass is a separate trade.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will quote.

How to look after the new joints

Aftercare is simple:

  • Keep scrapers and blades away from the silicone
  • Act on drips or damp patches early
  • Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation

Gentle products are best near the sealant. Harsh solvents may damage the bead.

Cracked glazing silicone means the joint has failed. Resealing now is a small job, compared with repairing damaged frames or plaster.

Surface by surface

Glass balustrade bases

Outdoor balustrade joints face the weather. A sound sealant joint keeps them tidy and dry.

Rooflights

A rooflight faces rain and sun from above. Its sealant ages faster than vertical joints.
