What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Access and height
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The amount of work

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Need a quote? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. We’ll explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before work begins.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Fyvie

It is not only bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback all take splashes every day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Fyvie questions

Do you cover Fyvie for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Fyvie is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Fyvie?

All our work, in Fyvie and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Fyvie, along with the rest of our area.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Fyvie?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Baths

Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.

What happens on the day

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Somewhere like Fyvie may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Leave it or put it right?

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

What you get with us

  • An ARBOMaster approved applicator
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
  • We’re fully insured

How to look after the new joints

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade

Do not stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

When something else is needed

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Fyvie homes and their sealant

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Around Fyvie, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. Homes close to St Peter's Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
